The need for training, or the inadequacy of it, is a major limitation. Currently, there is no consistent regulation in all countries, nor national standards for the training of caregivers of the elderly.

New forms of care pose a challenge for society as they open up numerous lines of study and research. When planning health services and promoting policies that support family care, it is necessary to recognize the involvement of other actors outside the family. Therefore, we believe, like other authors, that it is necessary to design and disseminate training and information programs that incorporate good practices in order to provide better care for our elderly people (Red2Red Consultores, 2009).

Trying to provide solutions to this important and urgent social health need, the project brings together seven partners, with the common objective of developing an adequate educational curriculum aimed at caregivers of the elderly who receive institutionalized and home care.

The competences of the professional qualifications of Social and Health Care for dependent people in social institutions and at home proposed by the European Union as basic and that are developed from the work modules that are proposed through this project:

  • Prepare and support interventions for the care of people and their environment at the institutional level indicated by the interdisciplinary team.
  • Develop activities related to the management and operation of the unit convivial.
  • Develop physical care interventions aimed at dependent people in the institutional setting and people with care needs health care workers who live at home.
  • Develop care interventions socio-health care aimed at dependent people in the institutional and home environment.
  • Develop psychosocial care interventions aimed at dependent people in the institutional setting and people with care needs health care workers who live at home
